Sue Barber
BS, MA Clinical Nutrition
As a (now retired) Registered Dietician for 36 years and a St. Croix CSA member, I want to praise the Moore family for their hard work and dedication to growing pasture fed meat and poultry the way nature intended. If you haven’t taken advantage of John’s farm tour explaining the value of his fabulous grass and his painstaking process of moving the animals/birds every day to ensure optimal nutrition, you definitely want to sign up next time! Because I am a nutritionist, I appreciate that the St. Croix meat and poultry I use in my household is superior to any found in a supermarket due to the optimum fat composition and the safety of the processes used in harvesting and packaging.
Favorite thing: roasting the chicken produces skin that is very crispy and you don’t have to feel guilty eating it! We are so fortunate to have St. Croix Farm in our area. Thank you John and Eva!

I made the decision to purchase locally grown, pastured meat products and I haven’t looked back. Not only am I buying food directly from the farmer (who also happen to be some of the kindest people I know), but I am purchasing the highest quality meat, free from toxins and chemicals, for my family. I get the privilege of knowing exactly where my food comes from and the people who produce it, while also becoming part of a community. CSA pick up days are like mini-community gatherings where area news is shared, events are posted, and opportunities throughout the community are promoted. Every aspect of this CSA speaks to my heart and my foodie self – commitment to caring for the earth, amazing and safe food products, supporting a local business (no middle man!), and cultivating community.

This is seriously high quality food! I’m going to make a stew for my Dad. He’s definitely never eaten anything this good.

We have been CSA members since the first month. We have enjoyed the meats, love the flavor, and the price is worth it!
With the 5 pounds of hamburger we make a variety of things: meatballs, lasagna, meatloaf, sloppy joes, and of course burgers. With the chicken, we bake it and use it throughout the week in chicken salad and quesadillas. In the summer we will grill beer can chicken. Every other month we get pork chops or a ham steak. Sometimes we add on a rib-eye steak, a sirloin, or a London broil. We also get eggs (what a difference in your cookies).
At the beginning of the pandemic when the store shelves were being cleared we knew we had our meat all set. What a gift to not have to worry about food for our family.
The Moore’s are friendly and so helpful. We have gone on the farm tour and are grateful for their dedication to the farm and the respect for the land and animals.
